Pressure sensing textile from LG

LG_Pressure

A lack of robust textile sensors and electronic components has held up the advance of electronic garments. LG are attempting to fill the gap, with a textile pressure sensor. LG claim that the material can be used in garments to measure local pressure, potentially providing fine-grained feedback on how we wear our garments and whether, for example, they fit us well. Other applications in medicine and sports are envisioned including smart carpets that can analyse your gait and balance. In the past companies such a Eleksen made 2-D pressure sensing material but were unable to successfully commercialize the technology.

It would be great to see this material make its way into the mainstream and become accessible for fashion designers.
