This story is a little old but still worth mentioning as Zac Posen created a beautiful glowing dress for the Met gala. The effect is created using woven fiber optics which channel LED light along the fiber, emitting it at points where the fiber has been stressed. The impression can be magical, though it requires the setting to be quite dark to get the full effect, as is shown in the following photo.
