Alarm jacket to keep women safe

PoChing3

Fashion design student Po-Ching Chiu (邱柏菁) has developed an alarm jacket with female safety in mind. Using a combination of flashing LED lights and startling loud sounds the garment gives the impression of giving an electric shock while being perfectly safe. The design includes a convenient pull tag to quickly activate the alarm when under stress.

The following video shows the jacket in action. Po-Ching’s good friend kindly plays the part of the villain to illustrate its use.

The work was part of Po-Ching’s Fashion Design Masters at Shih Chien University (實踐大學), Taiwan. The electronics were developed through a collaboration with Engineering graduate student Jack Chen (陳瑋杰) from NTU. The workshop on Electronic Fashion was run by Assistant Professor Paul Gough.
