Close up of Intel’s ECG shirt

Re/code interviewed Mike Bell from Intel and his heart rate monitoring sports shirt The shirt appears to have multiple conductive contacts which enable a full ECG measurements, as demonstrated during the questioning. The particular garment shown was for a cyclist, this use case is well suited to ECG measurements as the upper body and arms are relatively still on a bike. It would be interesting to see if it is usable while running.

The electronics (using Intel’s Edison board) is in a separate plastic case which plugs into the shirt, and can be removed for the all important wash. Wi-Fi and BT are available to wirelessly transmit the data. Although there have been a number of ECG shirts this is another example of Intel getting involved and encouraging the development of wearables.
