Feel the pain through Aussie rules fan jacket

Foxtel are in the final stages of developing a jacket for Aussie rules football fans to experience the tension and tackles from a game in real-time.

Telemetry from the game will be feed to a users smartphone and then to a specially made jacket via a BLE (low energy bluetooth) link. The alert jacket appears to have a number of motors around the inner surface that convey the required sensation. The jacket apparently comes as part of a $1000 subscription package to this seasons AFL matches – they clearly take Aussie rules very seriously. For wearables this is a really interesting experiment; coupling live action with a garment and attempting to give this a mass market appeal. The following video gives an insight into the development, though the jacket looks a little awkward at the moment.

Aussie rules football were the first sport to allow players to wear GPS tracking devices during a game, so there is some precedent for them being technology pioneers.
