The impulse motorcycle jacket is not the first jacket to use LED’s to improve the safety of two wheel riders, but it is the first to tightly link to the bike’s brake and indicator lights Thus when the user brakes both the lights on the bike and jacket turn on, the same for the turn lights. This level of integration requires some effort as the user needs to hack the rear light to intercept the different signals, which are then wirelessly sent to the jacket. The handy work required is illustrated in the follow photo.
The heavy and relatively stiff nature of a motorcyle jacket make it sympathetic to embedding electronics within it, so you don’t need to compromise the garment feel, which is more of a problem with lighter fabric clothes. The following video shows the jacket being put through its paces.
